This is a 4-year programme, commencing in September each year.
On completion of the apprenticeship, you will be a Mechanical or Electrical technician.
Entry Requirements:
- 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C) including a B in Maths, English and Science (A's and B's are preferable)
Year 1
In Year 1 of the programme, trainees undertake basic engineering training at Yeovil College. You will be a full time AgustaWestland employee, spending your working week at Yeovil College undertaking the following:
Technical Certificate
National Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering (Year 1)
NVQ Level 2
Performing Engineering Operations (PEO)
PEO Training will cover the following:
- Bench Fitting
- Electrical
- Electronics
- Sheet Metal Manipulation
- Marking out Engineering Components
- Composites
- 3 Mandatory Units
Years 2 - 4 (inclusive)
In order to continue the programme onsite at AgustaWestland, specified outcomes must be satisfactorily completed in Year 1. You will be enrolled into a Modern Apprenticeship, which comprises the following:
Technical Certificate
National Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering (Year 2)
Higher National Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering (2 year course to be completed after the National Certificate)
NVQ Level 3
Aeronautical Engineering (Aircraft Technical Design and Development)
Key Skills Level 3
Application of Number
Communication
Information Technology
Working with Others
Improving Own Learning and Performance
Young People Launch Pad
Personal development programme
e.g. Working in Teams, Presentation Skills, Customers and Customer Focus etc.
During your 3 years on site you will:
- Attend college once a week on a day-release basis for a minimum of 3 years, in order to achieve these qualifications.
- Spend time in a number of placement areas, becoming skilled in a particular discipline. Areas include Structural Design, Electrical Design, System Design, Electrical/Mechanical Test, Quality, Procurement and Manufacturing. Whilst in these departments, evidence and knowledge can be gathered for your NVQ.
